Roller skate classes

We offer different classes to accommodate various age groups and skill levels to provide individualised classes tailored to the skill set you want to improve in.

Regardless of your skill level, discussing your experience level and goals with a coach is always a good idea to ensure that you are placed in the appropriate class for your needs.

The different types of Classes

Either your kids or teens may join a group class to improve their skills in a fun environment with others of their age or individualized private one-on-one lessons to train at their own pace and to focus on specific techniques. Also, adults can join the private or family & friends classes to skate in a familiar environment and improve their skills and confidence in skating

Kids group classes at The Roller Academy are designed to introduce children to the exciting world of roller skating in a fun and safe environment. The lessons are tailored to the specific needs and abilities of children in the age group, which ranges from 5 to 10 years old.

The starter lesson is for those who never skated before and need to learn the first steps on skates. The class starts at the very basics and introduces the kids to the skates and how to stand on them.

A typical beginner lesson for this age group may include a warm-up session, where kids engage in activities such as stretching, running, and jumping to prepare their bodies for skating. Then, the class would move on to learning basic skills such as stopping, starting, turning, and balancing. The coach may use various techniques such as games, drills, and obstacle courses to make the learning process engaging and enjoyable for the children.

Safety is always a top priority in kids’ roller skating classes, and the coach will ensure that children wear proper protective gear such as helmets, knee pads, and wrist guards. They may also teach children about proper skating etiquette and how to be aware of their surroundings while skating.

The intermediate and advanced lessons will introduce more challenging drills and exercises, such as jumps, spins, and crossovers, to help the children develop their coordination, balance, and control.

Overall, kids’ group classes at The Roller Academy provide a great opportunity for children to develop their physical skills, build confidence, and have fun while learning a new sport.

Teen classes at The Roller Academy are designed to cater to the needs and abilities of teenagers, ranging from 11 to 17 years old. The lessons for teens will either build upon the skills they have already acquired in the earlier stages of learning and may also incorporate more advanced techniques that are suitable for their age and physical abilities or even start from scratch for beginners.

In addition to technical skating skills, the lessons for teens may also focus on developing more advanced skating manoeuvres and routines, such as spins, jumps, and tricks. The coach may also encourage teenagers to express themselves through their skating and help them develop their own style.

Safety remains a top priority in teen classes, and the coach will continue to stress the importance of wearing proper protective gear and skating in a safe environment. The coach may also provide guidance on how to avoid injuries and take care of their equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Overall, teen classes at The Roller Academy offer a great opportunity for teenagers to develop their skating skills, stay active, and socialize with peers who share their interests. The lessons are designed to challenge and inspire teenagers to take their skating to the next level.

Private classes at The Roller Academy are designed to offer personalized lessons to the specific needs and goals of the attendee. They are available for all age groups from 3 years onwards. Adults are also very welcome. Private classes are ideal for individuals who want to focus on particular skills or techniques that are not covered in group classes, or for those who want to progress at their own pace.

The coach will work with the attendee to identify areas of improvement and create a customized lesson plan that targets their specific goals. The lessons may include various drills, exercises, and techniques that are tailored to the individual’s skill level and learning style.

Private classes offer one-on-one attention from the coach, which allows for a more personalized learning experience. The instructor can provide detailed feedback and corrections on technique and form, helping the attendee to improve more quickly and effectively.

Family and friends classes at The Roller Academy are made to offer a fun and engaging experience for a small group of up to 4 people, typically consisting of family members, parents and kids, couples or close friends. The lessons are tailored to the specific needs and abilities of the group and can be customized to suit the group’s interests and goals.

The lessons in family and friends classes will focus on developing basic and advanced skating skills, as well as improving balance, coordination, and control. The coach will work closely with each member of the group to ensure that they are learning at their own pace and that everyone is progressing together.

Family and friends classes offer a great opportunity for group bonding and socialization. The small group size allows for a more intimate and personalized learning experience, while also providing a fun and supportive environment for friends and family to learn together.

How a class can look like

What do I have to bring to the class?

It is important to come well prepared and equipped to the skating classes, including:

Bring the roller skates of your choice, this can be either inline skates or quad skates

Wearing protective gear (helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist pads.) while skating is essential for safety, injury prevention, and compliance with regulations. The wearing of the protection kit is mandatory and ensures that skating stays a fun and injury-free activity. It also gives confidence to the kids, knowing they are well protected, this will fasten up the overall training process.

Appropriate sports clothing and sneakers are important for comfort during physical activity.

Bringing enough water is important during lessons as hydration is crucial for maintaining physical performance and preventing dehydration, especially during physical activities such as roller skating. Plastic bottles are recommended specially because they do not break easily and do not pose a risk of injury if dropped or mishandled

How fast can I improve my skills?

Starters usually take 3-5 lessons to be able to join the beginner class. For a beginner to move to the intermediate level it could take anywhere from a few months to a year. It takes a similar time frame for an intermediate skater to reach the advanced level. However, this is just an estimate and each individual will progress at their own pace.

Different factors play a roll in the pace of progress, such as:

The more often you skate, the faster you will improve.

Consistently putting in effort and practicing the skills you are learning will help you advance quicker.

Some people may pick up skills quicker than others based on their natural ability and coordination.

If you have prior experience in a similar sport or activity, you may progress quicker.

Good coaching and training programs can help you improve faster by teaching you proper technique and giving you focused practice.
